Paul Rusesabagina

Paul Rusesabagina is the humanitarian who saved 1,268 Hutus and Tutsis during the terrible Rwandan Genocide of 1994. His story was told in the Academy Award-nominated film Hotel Rwanda. Paul received world-wide recognition for his heroism during that genocide, including the honor of a US Presidential Medal of Freedom award. After that time, he spent his career focusing on injustice, lack of democracy and widespread human rights violations in his native Rwanda under the current government. As a response to his humanitarian work, Paul was kidnapped and wrongfully detained by the authoritarian Rwandan regime on August 31, 2020. He was tortured, subjected to solitary confinement for over 250 days, and was subjected to a sham trial and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
